Founds Day Poem

Magic Maker
Dream Weaver
Sorceress of time and space
Key Bearer to Love in this barren, unfriendly place
Have me riding high today on the hopes of new beginnings
creating a happy ending
You have gone on with mandate to fulfill your wish
Reach the children
open their hearts
unclench their fists
Your dreams your love your work your kiss
Your blood your body your ashes your spirit
bliss
Bringin’ sunshine and rainbows to ghettos
Where children songs and rhymes are oddly juxtaposed
Broken glass and jagged needles
Grown folks lyrics set to sexidfied hip-hop jingles
Still hopes and dreams are outlined on pavement in bright colored chalk
Where children play and we just walk
Daddy call it
Living Love
Your tangible magic making working from around and above
Something you said to me about reshaping the world with love
Your grandmother’s faith, her prayers, her dreams contextualized
Stay you and keep to your art
The deals you’ve made in an earthly hell and in heaven far outweigh my broken heart
I miss you
Puttin’ your whole queen’s ransom on a brand new deal
With two words that have mass appeal
Spoken by every tongue and understood by everyone
Daddy Call it
Living Love
This is it
Jesus said we could rock this earth’s foundation with love
Your dreams your hopes your tears your work your kiss
Your blood your body your ashes your spirit
bliss
As sure as you closed your eyes
and said give mommy a kiss
As sure as you put your whole life on me
I have put mine on this
From 9th ward of New Orleans to Skid Rowe to Marcy Projects
Where children wonder if
Shattered glass and gunshots are as good as it gets
And how to make a way from no way around the way
They will live your love a few hours out the day
Puttin’ they dreams down on a page in a song on the stage to time and keep it real
Gettin’ lost in that moment and over the roar of a crowd know that god is what they feel
Rage that could have been inside a fist comes out instead for the world to regard in a
poem a sketch or a song
Finding their destiny or maybe just a way to get along
As all points of this story align to corroborate your life’s testimony
As I don’t understand why he took you from me
but have faith in God and this journey
As I move on inside the text of what you put down for me
As I open my eyes every morning and
Ask God how come you’re not with me
We will reach the children
we will unclench their fists
we will show them how good God’s beautiful world can get
Happy birthday One Living Love
